My theory on the social media algorithm

Does this sound like you? You have a great idea or some information to share on one of your platforms so you press the record button and line up a butt load of hashtags. Then you go about your day periodically checking to see how it progresses.

At the very least you expect maybe a quarter of your followers to see what you have posted and of that quarter maybe a handful might like or leave a comment. Nothing new and to be expected depending on your following and the blessing from the algorithm wizard.

Just a normal digital post day for the majority of us still hoping/trying to climb the social media ladder. However, my most recent TikTok video only received 1 view in the past 24 hours. You read correctly, 1!

Out of 584 followers that video managed to land the home page of a single viewer and this has got me thinking:

If a social media post goes against the grain of current popularity, are those posts blacklisted from the algorithm?

Unpopular opinion

I recently wrote an article, Why I Stop Letting the Universe Have Such a Heavy Presence In My Life and with that I did a little snippet on TikTok explaining my reason in detail.
